Changes, what would we do without changes

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Welcome to another edition of the aviddiva blog.  Changes are on the way.  We are moving back to the US.  We have things planned for this website.  We are working on some new things.  The first  change is the most immediate.  Due to the fact that I changed the computer that I am working from, and we are getting to know each other, there will no longer be a Spanish version of my posts following the English version.  There are plenty of translators on the web, and I know you can read it in English.  It simplifies things on my end and it makes for faster displaying of posts on the blog.  There will be some new changes coming in the following weeks, to make things more interesting, so I hope you stay tuned.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to send them here.  I would love to hear from you.  The summer has begun.  Enjoy it.

Only a quick reminder

Friday, February 13th, 2009

I am working on some small changes to the blog for next week.  I hope the changes will inspire you guys to actually comment more and to try some new things.  I will start out with some regular suggestions and hopefully will be looking out of the box for later suggestions.

The only other thing I want to let you know is that I do not accept comments if your only purpose is to Spam myself or my readers, or announce yourself and not contribute to the conversation.  I have no problem with you signing with your URL or including a comment about a product you liked.  I mean, that is the idea, to share.  But if you send a comment with the only intent to sell us something, we moderate all comments BEFORE we publish.  Some might have slid by, but I am on to some others.  MAKE A COMMENT, help us out and you will benefit also.  Have a great weekend and be on the lookout for next week.

Can you take care of yourself while starting a business?

Monday, January 26th, 2009

This question has been bothering me for two reasons:

1)  I am trying to take care of myself and start a business (with a non existent budget) at the same time.  Some times, it is very hard.

2)  The business mission is to teach women how to take care of themselves first.  Now, how stupid would I look if I don’t pull this off?

Interesting thing about my two goals:  they are so intertwined that they overlap every aspect of my life.  Just a quick example:  yesterday I purchased Vogue and Oxygen magazines.  I bought them because  I need ideas for the business.  Two months ago, I would have gotten them to improve my image.  But the business itself entails improving your image.  See where I am going with this?  Everything is connected and I am connected to everything.

So what is the answer?  I think we are going to discover it together.  I can only anwer that, on Saturday, I created a schedule for the week.  I included time to exercise, time to enjoy myself, time to learn and time for the business.  Let’s see how it goes.  Stay tuned.

¿Cuan tonta voy a lucir si no puedo lograrlo?

The first day of a new venture is always the hardest

Friday, January 16th, 2009

we decided to set some ground rules about how this new era of the blog was going to work.  We post them here for those of you who have businesses or families to run and wonder about setting some ground rules yourselves.  It is always a good idea to let everyone involved know what the rules are.  Here are Avid Diva’s rules of engagement:

1)  One post a week - unless something really interesting happens or something happens that affects us directly, we will probably be posting only once a week.  There is a simple reason for this.  We are starting a business and we want to make sure to keep you updated on the process as a learning experience.  However, we have families, hobbies, school and other concerns.  We are sure that you do as well.  It is easier to read a weekly post.  It is also a very effective way of maintaining high quality.  We don’t want to be an obligation, we want to be a treat.

2)  As hinted before, we promise to keep you abreast of what is going on.  It is our opinion that people can learn a lot from other’s experience.  For that purpose, we want to serve as role models for the good (so you can do what we did) and for the not so good (so that you avoid our mistakes).

3)  The most important rule for this blog is to motivate you to follow your dream.  Our dream is to create a company where we develop a community of women.  The women in our community want to be happy.  Before we can make everyone around us happy, we need to be joyful.  We need to take care of ourselves first.  That is our mission.  Twenty years from now, we want the next generation to look at us funny when we remember the old days.  We want them to be shocked that women did not take care of themselves first.  We want them to know that it is OK to love ourselves first.  We want them to serve the community and their families, but in order to do that, they need to know how to keep themselves cheerful.  We want them to truly KNOW that happiness does not depend on having children or finding a man.  We want them to know, that joy comes from within.  And yes, we want them to know that they should take care of themselves both on the inside and the outside.  A great bag and a killer pair of shoes is uplifting for some and that is OK.

4)  We promise never to lie and to always give full credit when we know the source.  This blog is not really about making money.  For that, we are developing a company.  This blog is about reading most of the material out there, so you don’t have to.  If we find information on nutrition or makeup or education, or anything that is important to our readers, we will disclose the source and if possible, link you to the article we are referring to.  We want you to be as knowledgeable as possible.  We have no problem giving credit to the many people we read on a daily basis.

5)  Finally, we hope to keep you informed, and if possible entertained.  Every once in a while we hope to make you laugh.  But more important, we aim at keeping you motivated.

Oh, and one other thing: after today, the posts will be in English and Spanish.  So if you have a friend that has an easier time reading things in Spanish, make sure to send them a link to the next issue.

I thank all the nice comments here and in my email.  Stay tuned, and keep trying.
